The Address
Clive Steps, King Charles Street, Westminster, London SW1A 2AQ. The way in is down a flight of steps between the government buildings on the west side of Whitehall, looking out over St James's Park. The door is smaller than you'd expect for somewhere this famous — follow the signs from Horse Guards Road and you'll spot the queue for the entrance.
By Tube (the easy way)
Two stations are about the same distance — a four-to-five minute walk either way. Take whichever suits your line.
| Westminster | Jubilee, District & Circle lines — ~5 min walk |
|---|---|
| St James's Park | District & Circle lines — ~5 min walk |
From Westminster, come out towards Parliament Square, keep Big Ben behind you and walk up Great George Street to Horse Guards Road; the Clive Steps are on your left. From St James's Park, head down towards Birdcage Walk and cut across the corner of the park — you'll come out right by the entrance.
Don't aim for "Whitehall" on your map — aim for the Clive Steps or Horse Guards Road. The entrance faces the park, not the main road, so people often overshoot it by a block.
By Bus
Plenty of routes run along Whitehall, a two-minute walk away — the 11, 24, 88, 159 and 453 among them. Get off near Downing Street or the Cenotaph and walk west toward the park. Buses are the scenic option if you're coming from Trafalgar Square or Victoria and fancy seeing a bit on the way.
On Foot
It's a genuinely walkable corner of London, ringed by things you've heard of:
- Trafalgar Square — about 8 minutes straight down Whitehall.
- Westminster Bridge / the London Eye — 8–10 minutes across the river.
- Buckingham Palace — 12 minutes through St James's Park (a lovely walk).
Driving? Don't.
Honestly, skip it. You're in the Congestion Charge zone and the ULEZ, there's effectively no street parking, and the roads around Parliament are a knot of closures and security barriers. If you must, the nearest option is an NCP/Q-Park car park a short walk away, but you'll pay handsomely and still have to walk in. Public transport is faster, cheaper and far less stressful here.
Charing Cross is the closest mainline station (10 minutes on foot); Victoria and Waterloo are both a short tube hop or a 15-minute walk. All three drop you within easy reach.
